I had a whole list of things I wanted to do, and I did none of them, and then I spent the evening with that feeling of wasting a summer day. That feeling is the one I want to talk about.#summer #thequietwork #wildgroundliving
The AC has been running since eight this morning a The AC has been running since eight this morning and is having a hard time keeping up with this heat. That is usually when I decide dinner is happening somewhere other than the oven! This week it was a chuck roast. I had radishes, rainbow carrots, celery, and an onion needing to be used up from the farm store, so I put it all into the crockpot around the roast, with about a cup of beef broth poured over the top. It sat there all morning and afternoon while I worked and did other things around the house.By four o'clock the house smelled like dinner, and I had nothing left to do in the kitchen. The hard part of cooking every night for me is deciding what to eat. The standing in front of the fridge with the day’s energy already spent, trying to assemble a plan with whatever is left in me.A crockpot meal is definitely a solution for that problem. Ten in the morning, and dinner is technically done. The roast makes the house smell delicious, and the kitchen stays cool and clean.#homecooking #summermeals #wholefoods #wildgroundliving
Nettle is actually one of the most mineral-rich pl Nettle is actually one of the most mineral-rich plants you can drink. Iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, silica, and zinc, which are the minerals our bodies quietly run on every day. It has been used as food and medicine for thousands of years. Most people know it for the sting. The fine hairs on the fresh plant catch your skin and leave a burn that lingers for hours. Drying or cooking takes that away completely, leaving a dark green, mineral-dense leaf with none of the bite!#nettle #nettletea🌿☕️ #herbalmedicine #wildgroundliving
I lie there for a while before I get up. This is a I lie there for a while before I get up. This is a must! Some mornings I'm scrolling my phone, not looking at anything in particular. Other mornings I'm just lying there, staring out the blinds at the swaying trees. Then I make my way to the kitchen for coffee, because that part never changes, after telling my babies good morning.Right now it's Golden Caramel Nespresso with half and half, in my Yeti mug so it stays hot while I sip it slowly, for way too long. There's no rush built into this part of the day anymore.#slowmorning #summermorningroutine #wildgroundliving
There's a chair in the corner of my bedroom that I There's a chair in the corner of my bedroom that I walked past for probably two years without really seeing it. It just held clothes or random things that needed to be put away that didn't have a home yet. A few weeks ago, I finally cleared it off and made the cutest little reading nook. Now it's the first thing I see when I open my eyes in the morning and the last thing I look at before I turn off the light, and it truly makes me so happy.I don't know why it took me two years to notice enough to care. It didn’t take much time or any major work. I think I just stopped seeing it as something that could be changed a long time ago. It became part of the room, and once something becomes part of the room, you stop noticing it needs anything from you at all.#theartofnoticing #slowliving #onedayatatime #homerefresh
Chamomile is not a supplement you take every day o Chamomile is not a supplement you take every day on a schedule. That is not really how herbs work anyway.Chamomile is particularly useful for people who are wired but still tired. The ones whose minds keep going past the point where their bodies are done. The ones whose digestion goes sideways when stress arrives. The ones who lie down and cannot locate the off switch in their mind. We go over what it is, what it does, and how to use it on the blog! #chamomile #herbaltea #wildgroundliving
